PM Oli briefs parliament on Thailand visit, addresses violent unrest in Tinkune

March 31, Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli informed the House of Representatives on Monday about his historic official visit to Thailand and responded to recent violent unrest in Kathmandu. He announced that his trip, starting April 1, marks the first by a Nepali Prime Minister to Thailand in 65 years of diplomatic ties.

PM Oli emphasized that the visit, including meetings with Thailand’s King and Prime Minister, will strengthen bilateral relations. Two agreements on tourism and culture, alongside six non-governmental memoranda, will be signed. He will also address the Asian Institute of Technology and attend the BIMSTEC Summit on April 4.

In the same session, PM Oli condemned violent protests in Kathmandu, alleging they were orchestrated to destabilize the government. He reported that a mob attacked police, damaged property, and attempted arson at key sites, including the international airport.

The Prime Minister accused former King Gyanendra Shah of violating post-monarchy agreements by inciting unrest, promising a thorough investigation. PM Oli assured lawmakers that those involved, regardless of status, will face strict action, with the Home Minister to provide a detailed report later. He underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and constitutional order.
