NPC suggests budget allocation on actionable projects

Kathmandu: Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Prof Dr Shivraj Adhikari suggested that the government prioritise the budget allocation for the projects that can be implemented at the earliest.

Vice Chairman Dr Adhikari said it while addressing an interaction on the formulation of annual development programmes, mid-term expenditure framework (MTEF), and the project bank of the NPC on Wednesday.

The projects would be categorised based on study and enforceability, he shared. The enforceable projects would not be less than Rs 30 million. Arrangement was put in place to not include such projects in the list of the national pride projects, he stressed.

The budget can focus on the programmes that align with the government policies and programmes. He further said the projects which are not listed in the project bank or DPR will be questioned, he said, adding that the project lacking DPR will be relegated for study.

Joint Secretary Khomraj Koirala made a presentation on MTEF that only 40 out of 44 government agencies had put data in MTEF, and only 32 percent of capital expenditure was recorded.

Similarly, the Joint Secretary made a presentation on the national project bank system. He informed that 7,337 projects were entered in the project banks, while some of these projects were in the drafting phase.
