Fire in Plywood Industry continues in Dang, nearby settlements being evacuated

 

Ghorahi (Dang), March 24: The fire that broke out at the Shangrila Plywood Industry in Khaira of Ghorahi Sub-metropolis-9 has destroyed property worth millions of rupees.

The fire is reported to have originated following an electrical short circuit. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chakra Bahadur Shah of the District Police Office, Dang, more than 30 houses near the industry are at risk due to the fire.

The plywood industry is huge, spreading over an area of eight bigaha. The work of removing the belongings inside those houses is underway while their occupants are there have been taken to safer locations. The fire has gutted wood, raw materials, ply-making machines, and other materials used to make ply.

The fire that broke out in the industry since 2 am this morning is yet to be put out. Firefighting efforts are underway with the help of fire engines from Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Lamahi, Gadhwa, and Kapilvastu. A large number of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army personnel, and locals are working together to douse the fire. —RSS
