Ang Tshering Sherpa to receive Madan Bhandari National Award
Kathmandu: The Madan Bhandari National Award for this year will be presented to Ang Tshering Sherpa, a prominent activist involved in the Himalayan Rescue Campaign.
The announcement was made during a press conference organized by the Madan Bhandari Foundation on Wednesday. The award ceremony will take place on June 28, marking the 74th birth anniversary of the late leader Madan Bhandari.
Ram Sharan Pyakurel, coordinator of the award selection committee and a member of the foundation’s secretariat, stated that Sherpa was chosen for his remarkable contributions in the areas of climate change, mountain conservation and clean-up efforts, and the promotion of tourism in Nepal. Pyakurel noted that Sherpa’s international advocacy has helped raise awareness about the environmental challenges facing Nepal’s mountains.
Since 2068 BS, the foundation has been honoring individuals who have made significant national contributions in various fields on the occasion of Madan Bhandari’s birth anniversary. The award carries a cash prize of one lakh rupees.
