Forest fire breaks out in Dakshinkali

Kathmandu, Feb 20: A wildfire has broken out in the forest area of Dakshinkali. The bushfire started at around 4 PM last evening, said Mohan Basnet, Mayor of Dakshinkali Municipality.

According to him, although efforts were made to put out the fire, it could not be completely contained. The fire has spread to the forest areas in Ward Nos. 1, 3, and 4 of the municipality and has destroyed more than 30 hectares of forest.

The Municipal Police, Nepal Police, and locals are working to bring the fire under control. “The forest fire has been brought under control to some extent compared to the previous day. However, the risk of it spreading further still remains due to the burnt tree stubs,” Mayor Basnet said.

However, the likelihood of the fire spreading to human settlements is reduced as the road separates it from the forest area. Mayor Basnet stated that the fire started in the Bansbari area of Ward No. 4 of the municipality.
