Emphasis on making Public Service Broadcasting Nepal content more people-centric
Kathmandu: Stakeholders have stressed the need for making content broadcast by Public Service Broadcasting Nepal (PSB Nepal) more people-centric.
This emphasis was highlighted during an interaction program organized by Radio Nepal today, which discussed the future direction of PSB Nepal.
In his address, PSB Nepal Executive Chairman Dr. Mahendra Bista stressed the importance of employees transforming themselves to align with the essence of Public Service Broadcasting. He stated that ongoing preparations for the implementation of PSB Nepal and other related policy changes are underway.
Communication law expert Kashiraj Dahal highlighted the need for PSBs to create content that resonates with the public while providing information aimed at improving the living standards of citizens.
Dahal called for a shift towards making PSB Nepal more people-centered, people-controlled, and people-run. He emphasized that the first step towards achieving this goal is to transform the staff in accordance with contemporary needs.
Dahal also raised concerns that PSB Nepal has not yet fully realized its potential, as initially promised, and advocated for making it independent from government control. He stressed the importance of ensuring the security of PSB’s resources to guarantee its autonomy.
Furthermore, Dahal urged that PSB Nepal must reflect the country’s diversity in its content, including news, information, and entertainment programs, to make it more inclusive and accessible to all citizens.
Bishnu Ram Neupane, Acting Chief Administrative Officer of PSB Nepal, called for employees to work with high morale to propel the organization forward. He assured that regulations and other policy-level changes would be implemented in the best interest of both the organization and its employees.
Khagendra Khatri, Deputy Executive Director of PSB Nepal, added that interactions like these would motivate employees and contribute to the organization’s effective advancement.
During the program, Radio Nepal employees raised several key issues, including questions about the status of PSB regulations, the employee integration process, service facilities, and the overall organizational structure.
