Bagmati Action Plan to be implemented in a nature-friendly manner: DPM Singh

Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakash Man Singh, has said the Bagmati Action Plan would be implemented in a nature-friendly manner.

During the discussion about the proposed Bagmati action plan with mayors and deputy-mayors of the metropolises and municipalities within the Kathmandu Valley organized by the High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization here today, Deputy Prime Minister Singh shared, ‘Bagmati Action Plan was disconnected and we have now given continuity to it and nature-friendly technology should be adopted while implementing it.’

He said the final shape would be given to the action plan by incorporating the suggestions of stakeholders. Project Chief of the High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization, Narayan Prasad Bhandari, said the estimated cost of the 20-year action plan is Rs 225 billion.

The Committee under the Ministry of Urban Development discussed Bagmati Action Plan 2024-44.

On the occasion, the Chairperson of Kathmandu Valley Mayors Forum and Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Chiri Babu Maharjan, pointed out the need to forward an action plan in a nature-friendly manner to protect greenery.

Similarly, the Mayor of Bhaktapur municipality, Sunil Prajapati, the mayor of Gokarneshwor municipality, Dipak Rijal, mayor of Kageshwori Manohara municipality, Upendra Karki, mayor of Budhanilkantha municipality, Mitharam Adhikari, deputy-mayor Anita Lama, mayor of Kirtipur municipality, Krishna man Dangol, deputy-mayor of Shankarapur municipality, Samita Shrestha, mayor of Tarakeshwor municipality, Krishna Hari Maharjan, mayor of Changunarayan municipality, Jeevan Khatri, mayor of Dakshinkali municipality, Mohan Basnet, deputy-mayor of Nagarjun municipality, Sushila Adhikari, deputy-mayor of Mahalaxmi municipality, Laxmi Mahajan, among others were present on the occasion.

They emphasized the need to bring an action plan that manages the Bagmati corridor and maintains greenery.
