PM Oli emphasizes preservation of Newa: culture

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the importance of preserving Newa: culture, stressing its unique history and distinctiveness compared to other cultures.

During a discussion with representatives from the Jyapu Culture Development Fund, PM Oli called for collective efforts to protect Newa: culture and heritage.

Representatives from the Jyapu Culture Development Fund visited PM Oli at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar, to invite him to the 21st National Jyapu Day (Diwas) celebrations.

A team of around 100 people, including federal lawmaker Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Jyapu Culture Development Fund chairman Mangal Krishna Maharjan, among others, amidst the playing of the traditional Newa: music, offered ‘sagun (auspicious food items)’ to PM Oli as an invitation to attend the National Jyapu Day function as the Chief Guest.

Accepting the invitation, Prime Minister Oli praised the Newar community’s culture of inviting guests to special occasions with traditional music and  “Sagun.” describing these practices as culturally rich and deeply meaningful.

The Jyapu Culture Development Fund also urged the Prime Minister to provide financial support for organizing various festivals to further contribute to the preservation of the original culture of the Jyapu community.

PM Oli also gave assurances that the government will support in increasing the fund of the reserve fund of the Jyapu Guthi.

On this occasion, a traditional invitation was extended to the Prime Minister to be the chief guest at a special ceremony to be held in Kathmandu on National Jyapu Day.

The Jyapu Day and Yomari Punhi are being celebrated on December 15 this year.

The main programme will be held along with a rally at Basantapur in Kathmandu.
