Radio Nepal and Nepal Television will be accessed by every Nepali household: Minister Gurung
November 27, Pokhara: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has pledged to expand the reach of Radio Nepal and Nepal Television to every Nepali household.
During a discussion program on inclusive broadcasting organized by Public Service Broadcasting-Radio Nepal in Pokhara, capital of Gandaki Province, on Wednesday, Minister Gurung emphasized the need to reform public broadcasting media houses and make them more accessible and service-oriented.
The Minister highlighted the importance of restructuring public media and reaching every household with a radio broadcasting service. He also stressed the need for government media to be self-sufficient and urged state bodies to advertise on Radio Nepal and Nepal Television.
Minister Gurung expressed concern over the increasing chaos in online media, particularly on social media platforms. He cited the example of individuals like Durga Prasai, who have gained notoriety through such platforms.
In addition to broadcasting reforms, the Minister also announced plans to boost the IT sector, aiming to create 300,000 jobs for youth within the next three years. He said, “The government intends to establish an IT hub to facilitate this growth”.
During the program, Amar Dhoj Lama, Radio Nepal’s Executive Director, stated that Radio Nepal had initiated its restructuring to align with federalism and fulfil the standards of public broadcasting service.
The discussion program brought together representatives from various organizations and communities to discuss the future of public service broadcasting in Nepal.
Participants shared their insights and suggestions for improving the accessibility and quality of Radio Nepal and Nepal Television.
