Minister Shahi calls for collaborative efforts to address climate crisis

Kathmandu: Minister for Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri has said that coordination among the stakeholders is essential to address climate change issues.

Inaugurating the Conference on Circular Economy in Nepal and Transformation Toward a Sustainable Future organized by Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) today, the Minister stressed the need for collaborative and coordinated efforts to resist the climate crisis.

Floods, landslides, inundations, avalanches, glacial lake outbursts, snow melting, depletion of water resources, excessive rains and drought, the consequences of climate change have a great impact on the world’s economy and collective measures are needed to minimize climate impacts.

He utilized the forum to say that Nepal during the recent COP29 held in Baku Azerbaijan amplified its voices against climate change impacts, advocating for solutions. WCN senior programme officer Subhash Chandra Kharel said that the event will conclude tomorrow, Wednesday.

The Conference aims to provide a shared platform for government agencies, the private sector, civil society and academia to collaborate for the promotion of practices for circular economy and share experiences.

It will also see panel discussions on various topics amidst the participation of government representatives and representatives from donor agencies, various organisations, circular economy-based entrepreneurs, youth industrialists, students, journalists, environmentalists and social workers.
