PM Oli pledges new approach for agriculture revolution
Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has assured to adopt a new approach in formulating policies aimed at agricultural revolution and job creation.
Addressing a programme organized by the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) on the occasion of the 7th Social Security Day here today, PM Oli shared that this government was taking a different approach to enhancing agricultural products and productivity to ensure fair distribution.
Stating that he wanted to bring about good changes in the country during his tenure without placing a burden on the future generation, Oli vowed that the government’s efforts would be focused on making tangible improvements that people could directly feel. Oli, also the Chairperson of CPN (UML), lauded the GEFONT for being a driving force behind many successful labour movements.
He mentioned that his party had introduced the social security schemes being inspired by many movements spearheaded in active initiation of the GEFONT. According to him, significant work has been carried out since the introduction of the social security programmes and expressed his confidence that further advancements would be seen within the next year.
The Head of the Government denounced the ‘wrong’ tendency of making important labour-related decisions without involving key stakeholders such as labourers and contributors. He reaffirmed his commitment to remove similar tendencies in the Social Security Fund if any.
Also speaking in the programme, GEFONT’s President Binod Shrestha complained that the social security fund was not labourer-friendly. On the occasion, PM Oli honoured people’s representatives who have been actively leading the social security schemes at their respective local levels.
The honourees were Phedikhola Rural Municipality’s Chairperson Ghanashyam Subedi, Bhimphedi Rural Municipality’s Chairperson Hridaya Lama, Baansgadhi Rural Municipality’s Mayor Khadga Bahadur Khadka, Belbari municipality’s Mayor Dil Prasad (DP) Rai and Sundar Haraicha Municipality’s Mayor Kedar Prasad Guragain.
