Lawmakers stress timely budget formulation and implementation for construction projects

Kathmandu: Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC), Prof. Dr. Shiva Raj Adhikari has emphasized the need for timely completion of national pride and transformative projects outlined in the Five-Year Plan through effective monitoring and evaluation.

In a meeting of  Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of the Directive Principles, Policies and Obligations of the State Committee under the House of Representatives held in Singhadurbar today, Vice-Chairman Adhikari emphasized the importance of making the NPC more effective and sought suggestions from the parliamentarians for the same.

During the meeting, parliamentarians emphasized the need for timely budget formulation and implementation, particularly for construction projects. They also stressed that research in policymaking should be made more transparent and effective.

Chairman of the committee, Thakur Prasad Gaire, stated that the committee is preparing an annual work plan based on public demand. He also mentioned that the committee will collaborate with the NPC and stakeholders to promote sustainable development.

Members of the NPC, including Dr. R.P. Bichha, Dr. Ramesh Prasad Singh, Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, Gita Kumari Poudyal Adhikari, Dr. Jay Bahadur Tandon, and Ganga Datta Awasthi, expressed the need for new policies to enhance the effectiveness of the NPC.

Rajkumar Shrestha, Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, assured support for implementing the committee’s instructions and suggestions.

Parliamentarians noted that while there were no policy issues, many plans could not be completed on time due to implementation problems. They called for balanced budget allocation to boost production, create jobs, and meet public expectations.
