Eid-ul-Adha celebrations begin today: public holiday declared
Kathmandu: Today marks the start of Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakra Eid, for Muslims around the world.
Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of the twelfth and final month of Dhu al-Hijja. This year it falls on 17th June, today and is being celebrated across Nepal organizing various programs.
Eid-ul-Adha honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
Celebrations will continue for the next few days with communal prayers and feasts.
On the occasion,Prime Minister , Vice President and Speaker give their special message of best wishes.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said the Bakra Eid has remained spectacular in prospering Nepal’s religious diversity, and enabling a culture of tolerance and collaboration.
Prime Minister Dahal added that it is not only the festival of a particular community but have been established as a national festival for Nepali community.
Acting President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has wished happiness, peace, and good health to the Muslim community on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Adha. Acting President Yadav termed this festival gives the message of unity to all.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire has expressed confidence that the festival would help maintain mutual goodwill, social unity and brotherhood among all Nepalis celebrating different religions and cultures.
