Nepal calls for South-South cooperation at G77 Summit (audio report)
January 22, Kathmandu: The Foreign Affairs Secretary, Sewa Lamsal, on Sunday, addressed the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China in Kampala, Uganda, advocating for stronger solidarity and cooperation among developing nations.
Highlighting Nepal’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs, Paris Agreement, and other development goals, she emphasized the need for a united front to tackle global challenges like pandemics, inequality, and climate change.
Lamsal, stressed the growing economic influence of the Global South, noting that it now drove over half of global growth. Highlighting the group’s strength – 134 members representing 80% of the world’s population – she called for the G77 and China to play a more prominent role in shaping global development and financial systems.

Secretary Lamsal urged developed countries to fulfil their promises on aid, climate financing, and technology transfer, while also advocating for stronger North-South, South-South, and Triangular cooperation, particularly focusing on the needs of Least Developed Countries.
The Summit, themed “Leaving No One Behind,” aims at enhancing collaboration in areas like sustainable development, trade, and investment. It concludes on Monday with the adoption of an “Outcome Document” outlining future priorities.
Nepal’s participation underlines its commitment to playing an active role in shaping a more inclusive and equitable global future through South-South cooperation.
