Nepali Congress MP urges diplomatic considerations in Nepal’s voting position

June 28, Kathmandu: Nepali Congress’s Member of Parliament (MP) Rajendra Bajgain has raised concerns over Nepal’s voting pattern in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), particularly regarding its stance on Israel.

Bajagain pointed out the historical diplomatic relations between the two countries, established in 1960 under the premiership of B.P., Koirala – the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Nepal, and expressed disappointment that Nepal had occasionally voted against Israel.

During a session of the House of Representatives, Bajgain emphasized the need for Nepal to reconsider its foreign policy decisions. He suggested that voting against Israel, a longstanding ally that has provided assistance in various sectors, including defence and agriculture, may have negative repercussions for Nepal’s diplomatic ties.

The MP called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be more mindful of Nepal’s friendly nations and to ensure that decisions align with the country’s diplomatic relationships. Bajgain’s remarks emphasized the importance of maintaining consistent and strategic foreign policy approaches.
