Pokhara to host Dashain Tourism and Cultural Festival on October 25

Kaski, Sept 30: Pokhara is set to host a Dashain Tourism and Cultural Festival on October 25, aiming to offer domestic and international visitors an opportunity to experience Nepal’s traditional culture and festivities.

The festival, themed “Tika, Jamara and Kite Flying – Celebrating Dashain with Tourists in Pokhara,” will be held at Barahi Ghat in Lakeside on the occasion of Kojagrat Purnima.

Organised by the Women Tourism Entrepreneurs Forum (WOTEF), the event seeks to promote Dashain not only as a family festival but also as a cultural experience for tourists visiting Pokhara.

According to event coordinator Uma Bhandari, tourists will be welcomed with tika and jamara, while a kite-flying competition will also be organised as part of the festival.

The event will feature traditional cultural performances representing different ethnic communities. Visitors will also get an opportunity to taste traditional Nepali dishes and explore local products, handicrafts, cultural items and tourism-related businesses.

Pokhara Tourism Council Chairperson Hari Bhujel said connecting Dashain celebrations with tourism would help promote Pokhara’s cultural heritage alongside its tourism industry.

WOTEF Founder Chairperson Jamuna Parajuli said the festival would provide a platform to showcase Pokhara’s culture and identity as part of the city’s tourism experience.

Similarly, WOTEF Chairperson Mamata Neupane said the event would enable visitors to experience Pokhara beyond its natural attractions by engaging with its art, culture and traditions.
