Press Council draws attention to mistreatment of its staffers

Kathmandu: The Chairperson and staffers of the Press Council Nepal have been subjected to mistreatment.

According to a press statement issued by the Council here Tuesday, the Chairperson was threatened and abused during a discussion with the leadership of the Federation of Nepali Journalists regarding public welfare advertisements.

A statement signed by Council members Namrata Sharma, Rabiraj Baral, Upasana Ghimire, and Prakashbhakta Mathema notes that while a discussion regarding the demands of the ‘Task Force for Saving Print Media’ was underway in the Chairperson’s office this afternoon, certain individuals representing the Federation and the Task Force behaved abusively toward Council staffers.

Affirming its respect for the right to raise professional demands, the Council has called for respectful and responsible behavior during institutional dialogues.
