‘Former CJ Rana was not arrested but moved to safety’, clarifies Minister Pokharel

Kathmandu, Sept 29: The government has clarified that former Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana was neither arrested nor taken into custody, but was moved to a secure location after a security threat was reported against him.

Minister for Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, also Spokesperson of the government, said so today while responding to the queries of journalists while making public the cabinet decisions.

Reiterating that former CJ Rana was relocated for his own safety, Minister Pokharel shared that Rana had received a security threat through a text message on his mobile phone, following which, he added, security personnel moved him to a safe location.

Rana’s family had also submitted a request seeking additional security, informed Pokharel. “He was not arrested or taken into custody. As his family had also requested additional security, he was taken to a safe place as a precautionary security measure,” explained the Minister.

Minister Pokharel went on to clarify that the threat received by Rana was not from the Gen-Z group but from an unidentified group.
