26 houses inundated in Setibeni Bazaar; Affected residents sheltered in schools

Waling (Syangja): Setibeni Bazaar has been inundated due to flooding in the Kaligandaki River and Seti Khola (stream) following incessant rainfall.

The bazaar is situated along the banks of the river and stream at the tri-junction of Syangja, Parbat, and Gulmi districts.

Ramesh Datta Awasthi, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Syangja, reported that four days of continuous rain caused flooding in the Kaligandaki River and Seti Khola, damaging 17 houses in the bazaar area on the Galyang Municipality-5 side (Syangja).

Similarly, nine houses on the Parbat side sustained damage, according to Ghanshyam Bhattarai, Ward Chairperson of Galyang-5.

Flood-affected residents from both Syangja and Parbat were relocated to the premises of Shaligram Secondary School on the Parbat side. While there were no human casualties, some livestock were swept away by the floodwaters. Daily life in the bazaar has been disrupted due to the inundation.

The massive ‘Shaligram Shila’ (sacred stone)—a major landmark—has also been submerged by the floodwaters.

Due to flooding in the Kaligandaki River, all sluice gates of the Kaligandaki ‘A’ Hydropower Project in Mirmi (Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-7, Syangja) have been opened, and power generation has been halted.

The floodwaters also washed away the motorable bridge connecting Syangja and Gulmi at Mirmi this morning.
