Kathmandu, September 25: Main roads and highways have been closed in 26 districts across the country due to the high risk of floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, said the decision to close or restrict traffic on risk-prone road sections was taken based on information received from the respective District Administration Offices.

The road closures and restrictions have been reported in the following districts:

Koshi Province: Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Khotang, Bhojpur, Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Panchthar, Ilam, Sunsari and Udayapur

Bagmati Province: Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Nuwakot, Dhading, Lalitpur and Chitwan

Gandaki Province: Lamjung and Myagdi

Lumbini Province: Rolpa, Dang and East Rukum

Karnali Province: West Rukum

Sudurpashchim Province: Bajhang and Baitadi

Home Ministry urges caution

The Ministry of Home Affairs has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and refrain from operating vehicles at night on vulnerable road sections amid forecasts of heavy rainfall.

The ministry has called for heightened vigilance to prevent possible accidents and minimise loss of life and property.

People have been urged to contact 1234 for disaster-related emergencies and rescue services, 100 for Nepal Police, 1114 for the Armed Police Force and 1155 for weather-related information.
