Government to relocate and rebuild Bhotekoshi flood-affected settlements in safer areas

Kathmandu: Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal has said the government will relocate settlements located in high-risk areas affected by floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors and rebuild them at safer locations with resilient infrastructure.

Speaking at a meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee under the House of Representatives today, Minister Lamsal said risk-prone areas would be assessed and road construction plans would be prepared only for safer locations.

He said the government would also expedite the reconstruction of flood-damaged bridges, build temporary bridges at critical locations and prepare plans to restore connectivity in the affected areas.

Committee members stressed the need to consider climate and environmental risks during reconstruction and strengthen coordination through multi-hazard risk assessments and digital early-warning systems.
