Gharpajhong Climate Conference to kick off tomorrow

Mustang: The ‘Gharpajhong Climate Change Conference’ is scheduled to take place over two days in Jomsom, the administrative centre of the Himalayan district of Mustang, starting Tuesday.

Invitations have been dispatched to all 753 local levels to ensure their attendance at the conference. Bhim Kumar Basnet, the chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, reported that as of Sunday, 420 local levels have confirmed their participation.

Additionally, 36 District Coordination Committees are expected to attend the conference.

The ‘Gharpajhong Climate Change Conference’ has been organized for the first time in Mustang’s history, aiming to raise awareness among the national and international community regarding the impacts of climate change and adaptation strategies at the local levels across mountains, hills, and plains.

Support for the conference is also being provided by four other municipalities in Mustang. Chief Administrative Officer Basnet noted that participants include 72 from Koshi Province, 58 from Madhes Province, 46 from Bagmati, 64 from Gandaki, 62 from Lumbini, 38 from Karnali, and 66 from Sudurpashchim Province.

Rural Municipality Chairman Mohan Singh Lalchan stated that preparations for the conference are in their final stages.

The conference will be inaugurated by Agriculture, Forest and Environment Minister Geeta Chaudhary. RSS
