Floods affect life in Namrung of Chumnubri-4

Gorkha: Two bridges and structures belonging to two hydropower projects were swept away by the floods in Therang Spring and subsequently in the Budhigandaki River at Namrung of Chumnubri Rural Municipality-4 in northern Gorkha.

The Chumnubri folks have been affected by the disaster. According to local Lakpa Dundup Sherpa, the floods accompanied by landslides washed away two brides along the Manaslu Trekking Route as well as structures of two hydropower projects.

The flood from the Therang Spring swept away the bridge connecting Namrung with the Manaslu region. It also caused rise on water level of the Budigandaki River, resulting in the collapse of another bridge below Namrung.

The damage has disrupted road connectivity of the locals to the upper and lower belts. Likewise, the disaster damaged two hydropower projects to which the locals relied on the power supplies.

A100-KW project which was lately concluded at a cost of Rs 70 million was swept away by the river. The trial production of the project had lately concluded.

Likewise, a 22-KW project was also destroyed by the floods. Life has been adversely affected by the disruptions to road connectivity and power supplies. The disruption in power supplies has also brought communication services and other services to a halt.

Tourist movement this season in the Manaslu region, which had just recently begun, has also been affected after the bridges were washed away. Hundreds of tourists who went to Larke Pass are facing difficulties due to the lack of transportation structures.

The flood washed away the houses of locals Nurbu Ongyal, Orgen Chhayoden, Lakpa Bhuti and Mingmar Lama, according to the District Police Office, Gorkha.

According to ward chair Pema Gyalbo Lama, the floods had wreaked havoc among the locals. He also said that four families who lost their homes will be provided with immediate humanitarian support and other necessary aid gradually.
