Ministry Assures LP Gas Supply Will Normalise Within Days

Kathmandu, Aug. 5: The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies has assured the public that the supply of liquefied petroleum (LP) gas will return to normal within the next few days, urging consumers not to panic or stockpile cooking gas.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry said rumours and misleading information had prompted unnecessary hoarding of LP gas, and appealed to consumers to purchase cylinders only according to their actual needs.

Ministry spokesperson Netra Prasad Subedi said the current import and market distribution of LP gas are higher than normal demand and also exceed the volume imported during the same period last year.

The Ministry stated that it is working closely with concerned stakeholders to strengthen the supply and distribution system and maintain a balance between growing demand and available supply.

It added that, in coordination with the Nepal Oil Corporation and LP gas industries, measures have been introduced to make the import, storage and distribution of cooking gas more transparent and predictable.

Meanwhile, the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has stepped up market inspections to prevent irregularities.

The Ministry warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found creating an artificial shortage of LP gas or engaging in black marketing during its supply and distribution.
