FDB directed to censor films detrimental to nation or its relations with friendly countries
Kathmandu: The Ministry of Information and Communications has directed the Film Development Board (FDB) to ensure that films containing matters capable of jeopardising the country’s security, law and order or relations with its neighbouring countries are not permitted for release.

The Ministry has reminded the Board of Clause 8(3) of the Motion Picture ( Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026 ( 1969) which states, “If any motion picture or any part thereof is found or jeopardizing security, law and order or harmonious relation consisting between Nepal and a friendly state or between peoples of various castes or tribes or which may cause negative impact to the public interest, descent behaviour or morality or defame any person or contempt of court or incitement to commit any offence, the Motion Picture Censors Board shall not Permit such motion picture for screening.”
The direction mandates all films to acquire censorship clearance before public screening in Nepal.
It has stressed that film producers, distributors, and the stakeholders concerned fully abide by such provisions and recognized that any film containing such aforementioned matters in violation of the Act would not be approved for the screening.
The Board has been urged to closely coordinate with film producers, distributors and the stakeholders concerned towards that end.
