Ministers including Home Minister Gurung visit Holding Center

Kathmandu: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung joined a group of ministers who visited the Holding Centre hosting the landless squatters in Kharipati, Bhaktapur, today.

Home Minister Gurung was joined by government spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security Sita Badi, Minister for Health and Food Safety Nisha Mehta and Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment Ramjee Yadav.
On the occasion, Minister for Land Management Rawal said the government was working to complete the necessary procedures to issue the land titles to the landless squatters soon.
Stating that it would take some time to manage the landless squatters, she said that the government is working to find a lasting solution to their problems. She also urged no one to politicise the issue of landless squatters.
During the visit, the ministers also held discussions with the landless squatters and informed them about the government’s preparations for immediate and long-term management, according to the Home Minister’s Secretariat.
After the holding centre in Kirtipur was flooded, the landless squatters living there were transferred to the holding centre in Kharipati.
