Vice President Yadav and Russian Ambassador hold diplomatic talks; Amb says Russia ready to help revitalise old industries

KATHMANDU: Vice President of Nepal, Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, on Wednesday met Aleksei Vladimirovich Surovtsev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Nepal, for a courtesy meeting at the Vice President’s Office in Lainchaur.

The two leaders discussed various dimensions of Nepal-Russia bilateral relations as the two nations mark the historic 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties.

On this occasion, Vice President Yadav extended his warmest wishes for the peace and prosperity of the Russian people on the National Day of the Russian Federation

. He expressed gratitude for Russia’s foundational support since the Soviet era in infrastructure, human resources, and tourism, noting his optimism that rising cultural and people-to-people exchanges will continue to strengthen their friendship.

Ambassador Surovtsev reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to bolstering ties and expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation across hydropower, agriculture, medicine, and physical infrastructure. Notably, the Ambassador stated that Russia is fully prepared to modernize and revive legacy industrial landmarks—specifically the Birgunj Sugar Mill and the Janakpur Cigarette Factory—upon receiving a formal request and prioritized list from the Government of Nepal.
