Prominent role of youths in climate justice stressed
Kathmandu: The two-day United Nations World Indigenous Youth Conference-2026, organised by the Youth Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (YFIN), Nepal and the National Youth Council, concluded today.
Discussions and interactions were held on various issues related to indigenous nationalities and youths, and experiences were exchanged, shared President of YFIN-Nepal, Kiran Shrestha. He mentioned that discussions were held focusing on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, programmes of UN Bodies, participation of indigenous youths in global forum and concerns of indigenous people of Nepal.
The conference focused on the issues of making youths’ role prominent in climate justice, food security, protection of biodiversity and environment conservation, preparing Global Youth Declaration and Action Plan.
Representatives of different organisations working in the field of indigenous people from different places of the country put forth their views on rights of the indigenous people, regional and developmental challenges, rights to self-determination and the role of youths in indigenous movement, among others.
