Govt firm to implement changing aspiration of cinema: Minister Dr Timilsina

Kathmandu: Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has vowed that the government would address the film sector’s aspiration of change.

At a programme organised jointly by Nepal Tourism Board and Film Development Board in honour of Nepali film ‘Elephants in the Fog’ which was awarded at the recent Cannes Film Festival in France, Minister Dr Timilsina reminded that the government was making untiring efforts for development, strengthening and institutional reforms of the film sector.

“The cash prize is not enough for honour. The film has given an invaluable gift to the country and government,” he observed.

A bill relating to the development of films was under consideration in a parliamentary committee, for which cine artists and producers could give inputs for improvement, according to him.

The Minister further informed that the government had allocated some Rs 30 million for the production of quality films that best reflect national identity, culture and voices.

The Film Development Board would be strengthened to develop cinema as an industry, he added. The film, which was honoured at the Cannes Film Festival, was handed over a cash prize of Rs 250 thousand on the occasion.
