Extreme heat forces temporary school closures in Kanchanpur

Kanchanpur, May 25 — Rising temperatures have disrupted regular classes in Kanchanpur, with local governments announcing temporary school closures due to extreme heat conditions.

Bheemdatta Municipality has declared a three-day closure of all community and institutional schools from today, citing health risks for students. Municipality education section chief Hari Dutta Joshi said the decision was taken to avoid possible heat-related health problems among children.

Similarly, Krishnapur Municipality has also announced a three-day school holiday starting today. Shuklaphanta Municipality is preparing to suspend classes for a few days and is closely monitoring weather conditions and their impact on students’ health, according to education section chief Tikendra Raj Bhatta.

Teachers report that many students are experiencing headaches and difficulty concentrating in classrooms due to the intense heat. They also said learning conditions have worsened as many schools lack functioning fans, while several classrooms have tin-sheet roofing, making temperatures inside classrooms even higher.

Daytime temperatures in Kanchanpur and neighbouring Kailali have reportedly exceeded 40 degrees Celsius in recent days.
