CCTV Installation Begins in Public Vehicles Across Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu, Jan 21 — A campaign to equip public vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley with CCTV cameras has officially begun.
The initiative was launched today by Additional Inspector General Ishwor Karki, Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, during a formal event, according to Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
Subedi said the campaign was initiated after consultations with transport entrepreneurs and aims to enhance safety in public transport. “The installation of CCTV is expected to help reduce road accidents, prevent crimes, and curb incidents of misconduct and theft inside vehicles,” he noted.
Alongside CCTV cameras, dashboard cameras are also being installed to monitor external activities and identify responsible parties in accidents. The move comes in response to rising complaints about drivers fleeing accident scenes and instances of passenger harassment.
AIG Karki highlighted that integrating technology into public transport would make it significantly safer for passengers and drivers alike.
