Maithili Society Upholds Spirit of Coexistence, Says Madhesh Province Chief
Biratnagar, Dec 27: The Maithili community and civilisation are rooted in the principle of coexistence, said Dr. Surendra Labh, Chief of Madhesh Province, during the inauguration of the two-day International Maithili Conference-2025 in Biratnagar, organised by the Maithili Association Nepal.
Dr. Labh highlighted that the strength of Maithili civilisation lies in its inclusive spirit. He stressed the importance of promoting language, literature, and culture alongside societal development to foster prosperity. He also urged the Maithili community to contribute to political stability in Nepal and called for domestic employment opportunities to curb youth migration abroad.
Koshi Province Minister for Tourism, Forests, and Environment Sadananda Mandal underscored the need to attract tourists by promoting Nepal’s natural and religious sites, particularly inviting Indian visitors to explore the country.
Dharmendra Jha, Executive Chairman of the National News Agency (RSS), highlighted the need to promote the Maithili language in line with current times and stressed the protection of Maithili culture, language, and civilisation, noting the recent decline in the Maithili-speaking population.
Constituent Assembly member Jitendra Dev called for collective efforts to preserve Maithili identity, culture, history, and civilisation.
The event, chaired by Dr. SN Jha, President of the Maithili Service Committee, also featured opinions from Maithili Association Nepal Vice Presidents Pankaj Barma and Awa Anupama, writer Rambharos Kapari, and youth leader Umesh Yadav.
