Sunsari road accident: Death toll reaches five
Inaruwa (Sunsari), Aug 11: The death toll in the Sunsari road accident on Monday morning has reached five.
According to the District Police Office, Sunsari, the deceased are Shankar Mandal, 35, of Mahadev rural municipality-6, Anarwati Devi Yadav, 60, of Tirahut rural municipality and Jibacha Mahatman, 68, of Goithi in Saptari. Also, those losing their lives to the tragic accident were Laxam Sada, 70, of Koshi rural municipality-6 in Sunsari district and Ashok Yadav, 40, of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-10 in Morang district.
Spokesperson at the DPO, Sunsari, DSP Yogaraj Khatiwada shared that altogether 28 people were injured in the collision that occurred on Monday morning. Among them, five died while the remaining 20 are receiving treatment at various health facilities. The condition of the three injured people is said to be normal, Khatiwada said.
The accident took place at Bhokraha-Narsing rural municipality-3 in Sunsari district after a bus (Me 1 Kha 1799) en route to Diktel from Kakadbhitta in Jhapa district collided with a micro bus (Pra 2-01-001 Ja 0047) coming from the opposite direction.
Police have taken bus driver Gopal Adhikari, 36, of Arjundhara municipality-1 in Jhapa district under control and impounded the vehicle for necessary investigation. It is suspected that both vehicles were speeding in the rain, leading to the fatal collision.
