Kanti Highway resumes with restoration of Bailey bridge

Bagmati: Traffic has been fully resumed today on the Kanti Highway that connects Hetauda and Kathmandu.

The highway had been completely closed since June 4 to facilitate the restoration of a Bailey bridge over the Baguwa River.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamu Aryal, spokesperson for the District Police Office in Makawanpur, confirmed that the highway was reopened following the successful completion of the bridge reconstruction. It may be noted that the bridge was severely damaged by flooding caused by unseasonal rains in September of last year.

Since then, vehicles have been rerouted with the establishment of a diversion.

Meanwhile, the Kulekhani-Phakhel-Humane route, also connecting Hetauda and Kathmandu, was reopened on June 4 after blacktopping works were completed.

This route had been closed since May 16 for upgrading, according to Chief Engineer Sujan Bhandari of the Infrastructure Development Office. Although blacktopping continues in some sections, the route is now operational.
