Chiyuri gifted to PM from Chepang community
Hetauda: The members of the Chepang community at Raksirang Rural Municipality in Makawanpur district have provided Chiyuri as a gift to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The Chepang community people sent Chiyuri by putting her into a bamboo basket (locally known as Perungo) through the Bagmati Province Assembly Member Bharati Pathak.
Receiving the gift today, PM Oli thanked for the gift, stating that the Chepang community also sent their hope and confidence along with Chiyuri in Perungo.
‘I am thinking of bringing prosperity to the community by the use of this forest product Chiyuri added that their lifestyle, traditions, cultures and livelihoods are closely associated with this. I express my commitment to unveil programmes for Chiyuri promotion while expressing my respect to the lifestyles of indigenous and marginalised communities,’ according to the PM.
PM Oli has also hinted at bringing programmes to promote the production of Chiyuri and intensify economic activities in this community through the same.
He viewed that sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation and employment generation at the grassroots level should be ensured through the use of forest resources.
Chairman of Raksirang Rural Municipality Raj Kumar Malla said the Chiyuri sent to the PM through province assembly member Pathak is also linked to the identity of the Chepang community.
As per the longstanding tradition, a Chiyuri tree is given as a dowry in the wedding ceremony of girls.
