Tourism is basis for economic prosperity: Tourism Minister
Kathmandu: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, has termed tourism as the key basis for economic prosperity, underlining the need for collaborative efforts for its development and promotion.

While inaugurating the third edition of the ‘RSS Photo Exhibition’ organised by the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) on the occasion of the Republic Day-2082 BS today, the Minister called for policy and structural reforms to achieve prosperity through the means of tourism.
At the inaugural session of the exhibition themed “Mountain Tourism: Our Pride, Our Identity”, the Minister stressed the need for an integrated development of mountain tourism through collaborative efforts.
‘It is essential for further branding and publicity of Sagarmatha, the country’s highest peak, and other mountain heritages,’ the Minister said. He further expressed his hope that the photo exhibition is itself a message that “Something significant is taking place in the country.”
The tourism minister also vowed to come up with special plans for the promotion of tourist destinations with infrastructure development.
‘Nepal is home to numerous peaks above 8,000 meters, including the world’s highest peak, Sagarmatha and the Kechana Kawal of Jhapa that lies at an elevation of 70 meters above sea level,’ he said.
The exhibition features around 100 photos taken by the RSS journalists and used by the RSS photo service.
