Buddha’s message of peace an Inspiration for the world: PM KP Sharma Oli

May 12, Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stated that the messages of peace preached by Lord Gautam Buddha remain a source of inspiration for the entire world. Speaking at the 2569th Buddha Jayanti celebration in Lumbini on Monday, PM Oli emphasised the timeless relevance of Buddha’s teachings, noting their significance in promoting peace globally, even today.

Highlighting the ongoing conflicts worldwide, PM Oli remarked that Buddha’s messages continue to play a vital role in fostering peace. He cited the example of the India-Pakistan conflict, where Buddha’s teachings contributed to peace efforts. He expressed concern over the global production and stockpiling of weapons, calling it a threat to human existence. “To counter this dangerous trend, we must work toward global peace,” PM Oli urged.

The Prime Minister also noted the growing spread of Buddhism worldwide, manifesting in forms such as Mahayana, Theravada, and Vajrayana. “The core of these teachings is humanism, peace, and compassion,” he said, stressing the need to embrace Buddha’s ideals. PM Oli underscored that spreading Buddha’s message of peace is akin to honouring the legacy of Lord Buddha himself.

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badrinath Pandey, highlighted Lumbini’s significance as the birthplace of Buddha, where his first steps inspired a path toward righteousness. He emphasised the need to further develop Lumbini as a hub for spirituality and introspection.

The event saw participation from ambassadors and diplomats of countries including India, China, US and Thailand, as well as the Vice-Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust, Dr. Lyarkal Lama, who also delivered remarks. The ceremony underscored Lumbini’s global importance as a centre for peace and Buddhist heritage.
