Awareness imperative for earthquake safety: President Paudel
April 25, Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasised the importance of promoting public awareness about earthquake safety measures. In a message issued today, on the tenth anniversary of the Gorkha Earthquake, the President noted that the risks associated with earthquakes have increased each year due to the growing trend of urbanisation, even though earthquakes are natural disasters.
While earthquakes cannot be prevented, the President stated that their potential risks can be reduced. He highlighted that Nepal’s topography and the construction of human-made infrastructure were significant factors contributing to the country’s earthquake risks.
President Paudel urged all stakeholders to engage in widespread dissemination of safety measures and effective tools for minimising earthquake risks among the general public.
In his message, he also expressed heartfelt condolences to all those who lost their lives in the Gorkha Earthquake that occurred on April 25, 2015, along with the subsequent tremors.
Additionally, the President extended his gratitude to everyone involved, both directly and indirectly, in the reconstruction of properties affected by the quake and in the resettlement of the impacted communities.
