Preparations on to receive medical students from SAARC countries
Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population Pradip Poudel on Friday formed a joint committee to prepare for receiving medical students in Nepal from the Maldives and other SAARC member states.
Minister Poudel formed the seven-member committee presided over by Chairman of Nepal Medical Council Prof Dr Choplal Bhusal.
Officials from the Health Ministry, Nepal Medical Council, Medical Education Commission and others are the members in the committee.
Minister Poudel had held talks on this issue with the Maldivian Minister during their participation in the Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Health and Environment held in Indonesia in September. It is said that the current development on formation of the committee was a result of the same meeting between the two ministers.
Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki said that the committee would make a detailed review about the standards and norms of medical education practiced in both the countries.
The committee is expected to prepare a framework to create an environment to receive medical students in Nepal from other SAARC countries too.
