KMC rescues 73 children at risk

Kathmandu, Feb 25: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has rescued 73 children in the previous fiscal year 2023/24 and so far in the current fiscal year 2024/25.

Of these, 41 are boys and 32 are girls. A total of 38 children were sent to a protection house, while 34 children were reunited with their families. Cases involving seven children were forwarded to the judicial process.

Prabin Silwal, a member of the Child Rights Committee, stated that in two recent incidents, complaints were filed based on the psychosocial report and joint monitoring report of KMC.

Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol emphasized the need to focus on legal and practical aspects, methods, and measures to prevent negative impacts on the psychology of children.

“Though there are different bodies working for children’s welfare, the objective of all is the same. Let’s continue the collaboration and coordination. We have ensured the presence of a local police representative in the ward women’s network,” shared Dangol.

Similarly, Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police’s Women, Children, and Senior Citizen Service Directorate, Uma Prasad Chaturvedi, mentioned that action would be initiated by preparing a format for complaints based on details provided in any format for the safety of citizens.
