NSP (Naya Shakti) Coordinator stresses on directly elected presidential system

Kathmandu: Coordinator of the Nepal Socialist Party (Naya Shakti), Baburam Bhattarai, has pointed out the need to formulate policies emphasizing increasing agro products, just distribution of resources and use of green energy.

Responding to queries raised by leaders and cadres in the closed session of the first general convention of the party that began on Sunday, Coordinator Bhattarai expressed the view that the state should prioritize increasing production and productivity and achieving a double-digit economic growth rate.

‘Around 40 per cent of the total budget should be spent on it. At first, let’s increase production for development and prosperity as well as guarantee educational, health facility and employment from the state,’ he said.

Bhattarai stressed the need to work for physical as well as mental and spiritual happiness by maintaining social harmony through the medium of yoga and meditation. He argued that a directly elected executive presidential system should be adopted as political stability and good governance are necessary.

Around 1,500 representatives are participating in the general convention underway at Kamaladi-based Nepal Academy. The general convention would elect a 99-member central committee including 11 office-bearers.
