APF a glorious organization: Home Minister Lekhak

Kathmandu: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said the armed police force (APF) is a glorious institution devoted to maintaining border security, curbing illegal activities, managing disaster response, and contributing to peacekeeping missions.

Home Minister Lekhak said it while addressing a special function organized to mark the 24th anniversary of APF here Wednesday. Nepal government accords high respect to the activities the APF carried out during floods, landslides, fire, earthquakes, and pandemics, he reminded.

‘Whether is it for curbing riots or rescuing people in a disaster, APF is working devotedly and honestly,’ he said, adding,’APF’s role in peace and stability is significant.’

The Minister also hailed APF’s professionalism in the peacekeeping missions at the call of the United Nations. The ministry is positive towards increasing the number of APF staff in the UN peacekeeping missions, he shared.

According to him, APF is the byword against curbing border crimes like human trafficking, drug peddling and securing border pillars. He pledged support from the government and the Home Ministry for guardianship to APF for its professional safety.

The government is at work to make APF further effective, the Minister added. The Minister also conferred various awards to the APF staff who excelled in performance.

Deputy Inspector General of APF, Nawaraj Bista, was honoured with the APF Lifetime Achievement Award. Even the APF Year Book was launched on the occasion. Various sports as judo and taekwondo were performed during the function.
