Freezing cold prompts school closure in Mahottari

Jaleshwar: Five local governments in the Mahottari district have ordered schools to close because of the sudden increase in cold in the last three days.

The Jaleshwar and Manarasiswa municipalities and the Pipara Sonama and Ekdara rural municipalities have closed the schools within their jurisdiction for a week, effective from today, citing difficulty in running the teaching-learning activities due to the excessive cold.

The Ekdara rural municipality has closed schools under its jurisdiction until January 13. Five local governments out of the 15 in the district have announced school closure for a week.

The duration of the present school winter holiday would be deducted from the summer holiday for schools, it is said. Normal life in the Terai-Madhesh has been affected due to the intense cold resulting from the cold wind that has swept the region for the last three days.

The District Administration Office said the elderly and children have been hardest hit by the cold snap.
