Minister Paudel stresses protection of journalists’ rights

Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has stressed the protection of the professional rights of journalists.

At a programme organized by the Sancharika Samuha to congratulate and extend best wishes to the newly elected office-bearers of the Federation of Nepali Journalists here Wednesday, Minister Paudel shared that the FNJ should resolve problems related to the professional safety of working journalists.

‘It is a matter of pride to get the first woman leadership by FNJ. Now FNJ should take necessary initiatives to resolve problems seen in the journalism sector,’ he mentioned. The Health Minister argued that the role of journalism is significant to end corruption, establish good governance and change the political system of the country, emphasizing the need for efforts to address the problems of the media sector like remuneration.

Similarly, the Chairperson of the National Women Commission, Kamala Parajuli, pointed out the need to increase women’s participation in Nepali media.

Likewise, newly elected FNJ President Nirmala Sharma said support from all sides was a must to save FNJ’s prestige.

‘We all should continue to voice in favour of press freedom and freedom of expression. Discussion should be held to resolve problems of media that are at risk in recent periods. Increase in investment for capacity building of journalists is equally imperative,’ she argued.
