FNJ to conduct media mission to study intimidation on journalist Gopal Dahal

Kathmandu: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has formed a media mission to conduct a study on the series of death threats issued to journalist Gopal Dahal for writing investigative news.

The first meeting of newly elected FNJ leadership decided to form a committee on the field visit to study the threats issued to journalist Dahal and receive a report within a week. Central member Kamal Rijal has been named the coordinator of the media mission where the members are- FNJ central member Shankar Kharel, senior journalist Harsha Subba, chairman of FNJ Koshi Province chapter, Bharat Bahadur Khadka, and district chapter chair of FNJ in Sunsari, Santosh Kafle.

Similarly, the FNJ urged all three tiers of government to pass press freedom-friendly laws. The umbrella organization of Nepali journalists will also monitor this.

General Secretary of FNJ, Ram Prasad Dahal, informed that the first meeting of the new leadership elected after the 27th general convention decided to stand firm on press freedom and freedom of expression, rights of the working journalists, and institutional development of Nepali journalism in the wake of economic crisis facing Nepali media.

The meeting also extended gratitude to the erstwhile working committee, all election committees, concerned organizations, FNJ members and staffs at FNJ central office for creating atmosphere conducive to make the FNJ general convention successful.
