Madhesh region’s cultural identity Chhath festival begins today
November 5, Kathmandu: The Chhath festival, which unites the whole of the Madhesh region culturally, began on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the devotees bathe and have one meal.
On the second day of the Chhath festival which is on Wednesday, kheer (sweet rice) made with sugar is offered to Chhathi Maiya and the devotees consume it as prasad and then have one simple meal without salt.
Anil Singh of the Guhyeshwari Gaurighat Chhath Puja Committee informed that the main day of this festival involves observing a strict fast without food or water and offering evening prayers and Argha to the setting sun.
This year, Thursday, November 7, is the main day of Chhath. On this day, Argha is offered to the setting sun.
