EU allocates over 355 million rupees (2 million euros) in emergency aid for flood victims

KATHMANDU, Aug 29 — The European Union has announced an immediate humanitarian assistance package of €2 million (approximately NPR 355 million) to support search, rescue, and relief operations for victims of the devastating flash floods across Nepal.

According to an official statement issued by the EU Delegation to Nepal, the emergency funding will address critical needs on the ground, including food, healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and emergency shelter. The new aid comes in addition to nearly €3 million (NPR 533 million) allocated at the start of the year for disaster preparedness in Nepal.

To strengthen emergency management, the EU has activated its Copernicus satellite service to generate high-resolution maps of affected areas and deployed its Rapid Response Coordinator for Asia to oversee aid delivery.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed Europe’s solidarity with the Nepali people, stating that the funding aims to bring vital relief directly to hard-hit communities. EU Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib also noted that humanitarian partners are actively delivering prepositioned supplies to isolated regions as response efforts continue.
