Bada Dashain festival starts today with Ghatasthapana

October 3, Kathmandu: The 15-day Nepali Hindu festival, Bada Dashain, is commencing on Thursday, with Ghatasthapana marking the start.
The ritual on Ghathasthapana involves sowing maize and barley seeds in a pot filled with soil to germinate the auspicious Jamara.
The festival is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Nawadurga, with nine nights honouring her under various names.
The Dashain Phulpati will be brought home on October 10, and the Dashain tika will be applied on October 12. The tika ceremonies continue until Kojagrat Purnima, five days after the Dashain tika day.
