Govt facilitates global marketing of Nepali products: Minister Dr Timilsina

Kathmandu: Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has said government would facilitate establishing Nepali brands in global market by protecting originality and identity of Nepali products.

At a programme organized by Corporate Nepal to release a report related to Nepali products and branding in the federal capital on Thursday, Minister Timilsina said the report would be useful to know thoroughly on current status of Nepali products and branding.

The existing policy and structural problems should be identified and solution sought for the promotion of Nepali brands accordingly, he said, adding that cooperation among stakeholders, private sectors and state agencies is imperative for protection and promotion of industrial and intellectual property.

Nepal can reap benefit from international market with its special production, original identity and geographical features. The production relating to geographical identity should be protected as intellectual property and established as a brand in the international market, according to him.

“Today’s trade is not limited to geographical border. Information technology has spread the products across the globe,” he said, adding that government facilitates the process and policy making to make Nepali type known to the world.

Coordination among government agencies and legal reform are other priorities to this regard. According to him, development of Nepali markers is beyond trade. It is the issue of economy, which can contribute to national growth.
