Asian Games: Nepal to compete in seven sports today

Kathmandu: Nepali athletes will compete in seven sports at the ongoing 20th Asian Games in Japan today, with the women’s kabaddi team drawing particular attention.

Nepal will take on Chinese Taipei in its Group B women’s kabaddi match at 4:30 pm Nepali time. The group also includes Sri Lanka and Thailand, with the top two teams advancing to the semifinals.

The Nepali women’s kabaddi team, which won a bronze medal at the 2019 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, is once again carrying Nepal’s medal hopes.

The team made a winning start to its campaign by defeating Thailand in its opening group match.

A victory over Chinese Taipei today would further strengthen Nepal’s chances of reaching the semifinals.

Besides kabaddi, Nepali athletes will compete in swimming, boxing, karate, squash, table tennis and wushu today.

Nepal has yet to open its medal account at the ongoing Asian Games.

According to Ram Charitra Mehta, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC), Nepal is participating in the Games with 135 athletes competing in 21 sports. RSS
